Fellow Democrats,
I am very excited to announce to you a new effort to promote grassroots activism within the Democratic Party and an opportunity to celebrate those grassroots activists that have gone beyond the call of duty. Grassroots activists are no less than the engine that powers the Democratic Party.
Each month, we will recognize one Democrat from across the state as the North Carolina Democratic Grassroots Activist of the Month. In addition to recognition, I anticipate this to be a great opportunity to share best practices around the state for others to adopt. Decisions will be made by a committee, chaired by myself, which will accept nominations from active Democrats and then vote on the designee for that month. Each monthly recipient will be presented with a certificate and become a part of the Order of the Grassroots Democrat; something that I am sure will become a highly respected accolade in our party. Each recipients story and efforts will be shared across the state every month.
Ideal candidates are those Democrats that are currently engaged in grassroots level activities that are innovative, tireless, and inspire others to do more in their communities. This recognition is intended to honor current efforts and actions.
Nominations will be due by the third Friday of each month and should include the name of the nominee, county the nominee resides in, and a narrative discussing the nominee. Please include in the narrative specific efforts and how those efforts have made a difference for our party and your community. Any active North Carolina Democrat is welcome to submit nominations to the committee by e-mailing them to me at tonymcewen@ncdp.org
Our party has always, and will always grow from the grassroots. It is long past time that we formally recognize our activists and share their efforts and stories across our great state and I look forward to helping see that happen.
Sincerely,

Tony McEwen
